The swimming coach

Rippled, defined lines,

they were the tyrant of my childhood.

I could just picture myself clinging to

my mother's legs,

crying out every saturday,

week after week,

just because I didn't want that 2 hour lesson with you.

You pushed me, pushed me hard.

You made me compete,

tested my limits,

humiliated and disciplined me.

And for years I entered that pool with dread.

Then I got stronger, faster and leaner.

You created those tan lines,

those tones.

And now you've crumpled into nothing,

just as my physical finesse.

Chlorine.

Just like that, all those three years,

of laughs, of prayer, or worship, of sharing,

we said goodbye to it all,

the minute we walked out those doors,

into new chapters of our lives.

We've had a good run.

The bench with food, with ants,

sometimes dirt, an occasional art piece,

a lot of scares,

a lot of stares,

waves,

the stair case that led upstairs.

It's gone, maybe some day we'll reunited with the bench under the stairs.

I love you, cell, though we may be miles apart,

you'll still forever be in my heart.
